Rebel Spirit: minibullterrier-breed + health

A. Why we breed minibulls and what are our (longterm)
objectives
B. Why REBEL SPIRIT is an accredited breeding in the VDH (German Kennel
Club) and DCBT (German Bullterrier Club, FCI-member)
C. Which genetic diseases are relevant for minibulls and how we try to
reduce the risk
only in english: REBEL SPIRIT Code of ethics
A. Why we breed minibulls and what are our (longterm) objectives We breed miniature bullterrier because we fell "with the whole heart" in love with this breed, because we spend every day with these bundles of energy, laughing and playing with them. They enriched our life completely. Since we got our first mini Dori, we never spent a day without one of our minibulls. We are breeding because we want to give other people with the same obsession the pleasure to get a small and great mini-bull terrier, we want to improve and sustain this breed for the future. For this aim we want to continue to learn, get and share experiences with other breeders and owners of minibulls nationally and internationally. We are in contact with experienced breeders from Germany, from abroad, and of course the mother country England to learn constantly more about this breed and the important breeding-lines. For us, the current FCI Standard is "our mini - bible"! Our aim is to breed healthy "correct sized" minibullsappropriate to the FCI-standard. In cooperation with many other breeders in Europe and abroad we are breeding for desired "advantages", but breeding for health comes first. Only together with other breeders we can reach an improvement and a step forward broadly based. The FCI standard can be downloaded on following website: www.fci.be Breeding aim: We want to breed small minibulls, healthy, intelligent, beautiful and correct temperamented and absolutely mini-typed. The pups shall be perfect for the family and as a companion and if individually suited also for dog-shows, or dog sports like obedience, man trailing, agility and much more. For that we consider deeply for every litter which breeding-partner we could use for our female to supplement her perfectly. Especially we want to accent, that we don't use "line-breeding" without well researched datas of the ancestors, because of health-risks, even if this is the easier way for "beauty". Also we don't do repeat-matings or repeat using same studdog for several females. So, every litter at Rebel Spirit is a unique one and puppies only one time available in that combination. Our special
focus at breeding mini bullterriers is... Health-issues come first
and are the "basics": "The selfconfident temperament": But besides health and beauty, we give most importance to a self-confident REBEL SPIRIT-minibull. Our kennel name is embodies all of that: Our minibulls shall have a lovely and very selfconfident character, with an extremely high threshold, and with a big desire for close contact with their people and humans. Our RS-minibulls should be friendly, have a very liveful and playful nature and strong temperament, with a dash of self-conficende more than others. The factor behaviour and temperament is also very crucial for the selection of the used stud dogs. We want them to be sovereign in all situations and guidable by their packleader (the humans ;). |
B. Why REBEL SPIRIT is breeding in the VDH/DCBT The German Kennel Club (VDH e.V.) is a member of the real, worldwide and unique umbrella association for pedigree dogs, the FCI. Though there exist several “freeloading” and similarly named “wanna-be-associations” (if ever they really do exist and are not only “paper-written”), they cannot mess with the original! As the only German member of the FCI, the VDH demands the highest requirements towards their breeders and their breeding stock. Only by this way you can achieve the high standard of quality in breeding and show. The goals are: health, temper, beauty. To keep this achievements in the presence and in the future is the main task of the associated breed-clubs within the VDH. These breed-clubs, the members of which are the breeders (DCBT e.V. for the bullbreeds), represent the interests of the breeds they are standing in, and are fully concentrated to their support, continued existence and health promotion of each breed. These breed-clubs offer a whole-in-one-package in every way too, by means of prescribed health checks, supervisions and checks in breeding (checking the litters, checking the kennels, offering competent points of contact besides the breeder, and much more), exacting guidelines and organized shows with breed-specialist-judges! The VDH and the DCBT support their members by accredited possibilities of schooling about breeding, seminars and advanced education. Of course going to shows is much more then getting cups or titles: they are meeting places of like-minded people, fans of the breed and friends and they give the needful familiar flair, tolerance and coherence of an even though small but strong and loyal lobby supporting our bullbreeds. Helping with problems and "in these days society" imparting following: We are not alone and we are rightly proud of being fans and supporters of these wonderful bullbreeds. Well what reminds of a popular citation of Albert Einstein: "Um ein tadelloses Mitglied einer Schafherde sein zu können, muß man vor allem ein Schaf sein.“ .... (translated: To be a blameless member of a flock of sheep, first of all you must be a sheep.”) ... but we are no sheep :) |
C. Which genetic diseases are relevant for minibulls and how we try to reduce the risk The breed standard for each of the FCI recognized breeds requires a
corresponding phenotype (appearance). This includes, however, the
genotype (the inheritance of this appearance). Any attempt by a breeder
should be to reach for the ideal type of the breed. In addition to the
beauty this means also the health and eradication of specific genetic
diseases. Only a healthy dog can be a dog appropriate to the
breed-standard! Unfortunately, there is also a heart / cardiovascular and renal
diseases. PLL-mutation found (September 2009) - DNA-test is
available at laboklin.de (D) offa.org (USA) und aht.org.uk (UK)Responsible Mini
Bullterrier-breeders are able to avoid PLL now! With following mating-combinations How do we try to reduce the risk
of genetic diseases? |
